Love and appreciation are emotions that are sometimes hard to put into words. That’s why it’s great to have a holiday once a year to remind us to do that for some of the special people in our lives. When I was growing up, I worked hard to to something special for Mom every Mother’s Day.
One year, I found her a little figurine of three penguins. One penguin was leaning out sideways, doing his own thing, like my younger brother always did. Mom still has those three little penguins on her bookshelf, reminding her of my two brothers and I.
This year, when Precious Moments invited me to take a look at their Mother’s Day figurines, I was delighted. They have so many cute figurines that speak to every mom. The beautiful figurine of a mom sewing made me think of my own mom and her talents. Then I saw the mom playing Scrabble.
This figurine made me think of myself with one of my daughters. We love playing board games together and now that Sunshine and Lily are learning to read, I taught them my favourite game: Scrabble. They actually beat me at the first game of Junior Scrabble we played together.
I’ve been a fan of Precious Moments since my childhood as well. I still have the Precious Moments KJV Bible that my godparents got me when I was baptized at age 8. I used to flip through that Bible, just studying the pictures and thinking about what each taught me. In the same way, I love the way each of the Precious Moments figurines says so much without using words.
How do you celebrate Mother’s Day? What special gifts have you been given or given to your mom?
