Fun Activities to try With Your Family on the Next Weekend Off

The weekend is a time for family fun! I always look forward to spending time with my kids, whether we’re playing board games or heading out on bigger adventures. Families can do many great activities together, but sometimes it can be hard to come up with new ideas. If you’re looking for inspiration, here are eight fun activities to try with your family on the next weekend off.

Go Golfing Together

A common misconception about golf is that it’s a solo sport (or a sport for grandpas), but people of all ages and abilities can enjoy it. It’s a laid-back way to get exercise while spending time with your family. Golf enthusiasts from The Left Rough add that there are various things you can learn from the sport, such as strategies, putting strokes, swing fundamentals, and many more. Best of all, it’s a relatively inexpensive activity you can do together .

Here are some reasons why playing golf together is a fun activity for your family:

  • Golf is a great way to get outdoors and enjoy the fresh air.
  • Playing golf is an excellent way to bond with your family.
  • Golf is a low-impact exercise, so it’s gentle on your body.
  • You can play golf at your own pace, so it’s perfect for all levels of ability.
  • You can relax and de-stress by playing golf.
  • Playing golf allows you to appreciate nature and the outdoors.

So, if it’s a fun activity you want with your family on the next weekend off, consider playing golf together. It’s an enjoyable activity that everyone can enjoy. Plus, it’s a great way to exercise while spending time with your loved ones.

Space City parents love taking their kids outdoors, and this game is one of the most popular activities to try with your family on the next weekend off. Finding a good golf course in Houston TX isn’t a hard task and you’ll be amazed by the variety of options available for your family to enjoy. Make sure to look for places with family-friendly amenities, such as mini-golf areas and golf lessons for kids.

Mini golf can be a fun way to introduce them to a sport that they’ll enjoy more as they grow into bigger clubs and bigger courses. There’s less walking for shorter legs and usually fun things to see around the mini golf course, so kids are less bored while they’re waiting for their turn to play.

Have a Board Game Night

One of the best ways to bond with your family is by playing games together. Aside from being fun, it’s also a great way to get everyone interacting and spending time with each other. If you’re looking for something interesting to do with your family on the next weekend off, consider having a game night! Here are a few reasons why this is a great activity:

  • You’ll get to chat and laugh and unwind together while you play.
  • You can choose to make it competitive or relaxed, depending on what your family prefers.
  • You can tailor the game night to your family’s preferences, so everyone can have a good time.
  • It’s a fun way to bond with your family. Playing games together is a great way to create memories and inside jokes that you’ll all cherish for years to come.
  • It’s an activity that everyone can enjoy. Whether you have preschoolers or teenagers, a group of two players or ten, there’s bound to be a game that everyone will love playing.
  • You can mix it up each time. There are plenty of games to choose from, so you can switch things up and try new ones every game night. This way, you’ll never get bored!

So what are you waiting for? Grab some snacks and gather the family together for a fun game night!

Go Stargazing

There are many reasons why going stargazing is a fun activity to try with your family on the next weekend off. For one, it is a great way to bond with your family and spend quality time together. Additionally, it is a great opportunity to learn about different constellations and stars. Finally, stargazing is simply a beautiful and peaceful experience everyone can enjoy.

Since this activity takes place later at night, it may also be easier to fit around other weekend activities. Additionally, it’s a great opportunity to learn about different constellations and stars. Bring along a book about space exploration, stars and constellations, or astronauts to read aloud while you’re watching the stars above (you may need a flashlight too). Don’t forget the blankets and snacks!

Cook or Bake Together

The weekend is the perfect time to put together a fancier meal and have a big dinner together as a family. Why not involve the kids in the cooking too? There are many meals that are easy for the whole family to prep together, like pizza or tacos. Or you could plan a fancier meal and have “teams” working on different parts—maybe two kids are baking dessert while Mom and another child plan the entree and Dad and the toddler mix up a salad.

This is a great way to get picky eaters excited about food, because they can help choose the menu and what goes on it. Or you could pretend to be world travelers and plan a meal around a specific cuisine—maybe you want to make East Indian food or Chinese food. You can pick up a cookbook from your local bookstore or just browse recipes and ideas on Pinterest.

Build a Puzzle

I know many families that like to have a puzzle on the go over Christmas vacation. Why wait for Christmas? Pull out a jigsaw puzzle and see if you can get it done in a weekend! Add some fun to it with snacks or play music or an audiobook while you’re puzzling over pieces. Up the adrenaline by adding prizes for getting a third or all of the puzzle done by a certain time—and if it’s not done, then it all gets put away and you have to start at the beginning next weekend!

Go Bowling

Head down to your local bowling alley as a family and see who can throw a strike! Many bowling alleys offer “kids bowl free” deals in the summertime. If you watch the bowling alley website, there may be other coupons or cheap times to bowl when the alley is quieter. Some bowling alleys also have theme nights or glow-in-the-dark bowl to make it more exciting.

Another option is to grab a bocce ball set and try lawn bowling. You can do it on any flat area—your yard or the local park—on a sunny day. Or vary it up by the season—how about some pumpkin bowling for the fall? Invite the neighbours and pick the perfect pumpkins!

Host a Garage Sale

A garage sale is a fun way to clear out things the kids are no longer using and possibly earn some money. This may encourage the kids to actually clean their room and let go of that lava lamp they haven’t plugged in for the past two years or that series of books they outgrow in Kindergarten. You could also meet the neighbours who stop by to see what you have for sale. At the end, take whatever doesn’t sell to your local thrift store to donate. Make a plan for what you’ll do with the earnings—go bowling or golfing?

Create an Emergency Plan

Call everyone together and make a family emergency plan. You could use the news to get started or discuss what local disasters are possible in your area. For example, what would you do if there was a house fire? The kids could have fun making a map of the house, planning escape routes, and then actually running a fire drill—complete with exits out the windows!

There are plenty of resources available on this topic, from books at your local library to websites with more information about various disasters. You could also make emergency plans for common activities you do. For example, we spent some time watching a TV show about North Shore rescues and then discussed what to do (and not do!) while we’re out hiking. This has helped me be more prepared when we head out for a family hike.

Have a Lego Competition

Get out the Lego and see what you can build. If your family enjoys competition, you could try setting a theme—e.g., everyone has to build a house or a vehicle—and then set a timer and see who can complete their model in a specific time. Or pick up a Lego book and try to follow the instructions to create something. If your kids aren’t as competitive, make it about creating together and finding the perfect piece for your model.

Film a Movie Together

Do you have kids who enjoy acting, filming, writing, or playing with video? Make a family video! You could record specific family members singing, playing musical instruments, reciting poetry, or telling jokes. Get more family (or friends) invovled and try to put on your own play in the backyard. Another fun idea for making videos is to use stop motion animation. Your kids could have fun moving their dolls, stuffies or Legos to tell a story.
