Summer saw various members of our family heading off in different directions for different trips. Whether we were traveling to visit family, for work, or simply for fun, every trip involved packing lists and figuring out which bag each person needed.
Now that we’re back in the school-year routine, I’m enjoying the predictability again—although there are still plenty of packing lists and questions about who is taking what where. My teens head off to university and high school each day with their own lists of what they need, while my youngest two have different activities on different days of the week. In the midst of all the backpacks and lunch bags, a few other bags and cases have become important parts of our daily routines, too. Two that I use regularly are my glasses case and jewelry case.

Protect Your Glasses with Style
Both my oldest daughter and I wear glasses all day long. In thirty years of wearing glasses, I’ve only broken them once. I put them on my bed, forgot they were there, and then knelt on them and snapped the arms off. After that experience, I learned that my glasses have three safe places: on my face, on my nightstand, or in their case.
A few years ago, I also realized I needed to take better care of my eyes and finally got myself a pair of sunglasses. That gave me one more pair of glasses to keep track of—and not break or lose. My solution has been to keep my sunglasses in a case in my purse.
For a long time, I used the cheap case that came with my sunglasses from the optician. When that broke, I replaced it with another inexpensive case, which is already starting to show signs of wear. What I noticed immediately was how much thicker and sturdier this case is than the ones I’d been using. And, for those of us who are very sensory, there’s another bonus: it’s surprisingly soft, both inside and out. The velvet lining keeps the glasses from getting scratched, while the padded exterior gives me much more confidence about tossing the case into my purse.

Jewelry on the Go
My jewelry tastes are pretty simple and minimal, but I do have a few favourite pieces that I wear regularly. Until now, I rarely took them with me when I traveled because I didn’t have a good way to keep them organized and safe in my luggage.
