If you’re flying through San Francisco airport with your dog, make your way to Terminal 2, Courtyard 2, where you can find a dog relief area. There’s a separate animal relief area in Terminal 3, Courtyard 4, if you are landing near this spot. For your convenience, as well as your dog’s, it’s ideal to rent a car from National Car Rental. They offer SUVs, minivans, and full-size cars to accommodate your dog and your luggage.

If you’re planning to explore San Francisco together with your dog, here are some options you can check out.

Alamo Square Dog Park

Once you leave the San Fransiscio airport, a 30-minute drive will take you to a grassy park, a perfect playground for your pet. In addition, Alamo Square Dog Park also offers a great city view. There are plenty of people who bring their dogs to this area for a leisurely walk or some exercise. Don’t forget to bring along your dog’s favourite toys to play with while you’re exploring.

Baker Beach

If you’ve been longing for that coastal view, sea breeze and a dose of sunshine on your skin, then head off to Baker Beach in your rented car. In less than an hour’s drive using SFO car rentals, you and your friends will be enjoying a panoramic view of the Golden Gate Bridge while your pets run around the sand. Take note that the beach is unsafe for swimming, but locals take their pets with them to walk across the mile-long shoreline.

Zazie

There are plenty of pet-friendly restaurants and cafes in San Francisco. Zazie is just a 30-minute drive from the airport. This French Bistro encourages patrons to bring their dogs with them. Your pet can enjoy some delicious treats while you savor those mussels, porcini, and truffle ravioli with a glass of superb wine.

Spike’s Coffees and Teas

Coffee lovers out there need not worry about bringing their dogs with them. San Francisco offers plenty of options where you can get your caffeine fix while your dog accompanies you. Spike’s Coffees and Teas is also with an half hour from the airport. It has friendly and welcoming outdoor seating. If you are in a hurry, you can order online and just drop by their shop to pick up your coffee or tea. You would know right away that this coffee shop is pet-friendly. Their brand logo is a giveaway.

Crissy Field

This recreational spot is about 19 miles away from the airport or a 30-40 minutes drive in your rented car. Crissy Field is perfect for picture taking. You can choose the Golden Gate Bridge, the Alcatraz, or the city view as your background. Taking your dog for a walk while you enjoy some sightseeing is a win-win. You can just stay at this place and watch people come and go. You can also walk over the field or do a quick job near the beach area.

One thing to remember is to take all your valuables with you especially if you plan to stay for hours. Do not leave your important stuff in your parked car.

Paddleboarding

San Francisco is also a great place to go paddleboarding with your dog. The city offers a variety of paddleboarding spots, from the calm waters of the bay to the rough waves of the Pacific Ocean. If you’re looking for a truly unique experience, try paddling under the Golden Gate Bridge. This is a great place to learn how to paddleboard, as there are many beginner-friendly spots. You’ll get an up-close and personal view of one of the most iconic landmarks in the world!

Enjoying the beauty of San Francisco is still possible even if you are bringing your pet with you. Your pet will probably have more fun exploring and playing with than being left alone at home. Public transit is likely less pet-friendly, so it’s a better idea to rent a car for your vacation. (Just don’t forget to clean up the car before returning. You could be paying for cleaning fees if there are plenty of furs around!)

Make wonderful memories together with your furry friend!
