3 Reasons Why a Clean Home is Important to Your Family

I’m a neat freak. I like having a clean, organized home, with everything in its place and every surface spotless. That doesn’t mean my house always looks that way, though, especially with four kids in the house! Having a clean home is important for more than just personal preference. Here are 3 reasons why a clean home is important to your family.

A Clean Home Can Help Reduce Energy Bills

Having a clean home can actually help with your monthly expenses. Dust circulating through your home doesn’t just show up on the bookshelves and dressers. It also covers your heating vents and ends up in your ducts. The air filter on your HVAC system can get clogged with dust, causing your system to work much harder to circulate air through your house.

Reducing the dust in your home by regularly cleaning and dusting helps your HVAC system function better. This saves you money not only by reducing how hard your HVAC system works, but also by cutting down on unnecessary repairs and extending time between servicing appointments.

Fortunately, dusting is an easy chore for kids to learn! My girls love donning a dusting mitt and helping out. I assign them areas of the house based on what they can reach and do the highest shelves myself.

Other appliances will benefit from regular cleaning, too. For example, your dryer will work better if you clear the lint trap before every load. Your dishwasher will run more efficiently with regular cleaning to prevent the buildup of lime and grease on its spray arms and filters. Your oven will be less likely to set off the fire alarm if it doesn’t have old, burnt food sitting in the bottom.

A Clean Home Can Help Reduce Illness and Allergies

Having a clean home can also help prevent illness and allergies. That dust hanging out on your bookshelves and accumulating in your ducts is also swirling through the air. Dust, pet dander, dust mites and other pollutants can contribute to asthma, allergies, fatigue, headaches, and respiratory problems. Vacuuming and dusting help prevent the spread of airborne pollutants.

During the winter months, I try to put a bit more effort into washing surfaces we touch frequently. Bacteria and viruses can be spread by all of us opening the same door or turning on the same light switch. Quickly wiping these high-traffic surfaces helps prevent the spread of colds and flus. If you’re concerned about maintaining a clean and healthy living space, consider seeking a house cleaning service near you to tackle these tasks effectively.

A Clean Home Helps Create Peace of Mind

Often after supper, my kids ask, “What should we do tonight?” They’re thinking family movie or board games. I’m thinking about the dishes piled on the counter and the peas my 1-year-old has dropped under her high chair (which should be vacuumed before the ants move in). It’s hard for me to relax when the house feels messy or disorganized.

Having a clean home improves your mental clarity and reduces stress. Without piles of papers staring at you, or your child’s sneakers wandering off across the living room by themselves, you’ll be able to focus better on other tasks, whether that’s playing with your kids or running your work-at-home business.
