Treasury of Bible Stories: Rhythmical Rhymes of Biblical Times

Treasury of Bible Stories: Rhythmical Rhymes of Biblical Times by Kelly PulleySunshine and Lily love Bible stories. In fact, a few weeks ago, when we bought them a second-hand Fisher Price tape player, I heard them sitting in their room listening to their selection of second-hand tapes from my sister-in-law. Several of the tapes were different versions of Bible stories for preschoolers. I smiled as I heard the narrative drifting from their room. They know many of their Bible stories so well, but they still love to hear them.

That’s part of why I like finding new ways to look at the familiar old stories. Treasury of Bible Stories: Rhythmical Rhymes of Biblical Times is a fun new kids’ Bible that sets Bible stories to rhyme. The stories include detailed, fun pictures that held the girls’ attention while I was reading. In fact, I wanted to stop on each page to look at the pictures myself!

Treasury of Bible Stories is broken into easy chapters which covers various stories of the Bible. For example, the first chapter is “Tricked by a Snake,” which moves from creation (“God made Adam a beautiful place to call home”) to getting kicked out of the garden (“They should have been doing what God said to do, but instead they were tricked by a snake!)”.

The next chapters tell the story of Noah’s Ark and Joseph, and then three chapters cover Moses’ story and the Israelites’ escape from Egypt. The New Testament stories include Jesus’ birth, John the Baptist, Jesus Walking on Water, a couple parables, and then Jesus’ death and resurrection.

“It’s never too clever

to run from God’s wish.

Or you just might end up

being food for a fish.” ~ Jonah

Intended for children ages 4 – 8, this Bible is fun to read aloud. There were a few times when I winced at the rhymes or stumbled on the rhythm, but overall, I had as much fun with the stories and pictures as the girls did. I enjoy a good rhyming story and appreciated the way that these stories retold familiar stories to make them understandable for kids. The stories continually pointed to God and the lessons beneath the stories.

“When you’re not very brave and you’re not very strong,

God’s plan may seem hard and a little bit wrong.

But if God’s on your side, there’s no reason to doubt.

Just blow on your horn, and praise God with a shout!” ~ Gideon
