This weekend found us at the Seattle Holiday Inn while we explored the city. We’ve been talking about going to Seattle since we moved here, so a few weeks ago we threw together this trip. It was a lot of fun to get away for a weekend and explore a new city together.
Arriving at the Seattle Holiday Inn
We took the Victoria Clipper to Seattle and then walked the ten blocks up the hill to the Holiday Inn. The girls made a fort out of all the pillows while I organized our stuff and my husband checked his email. Then we headed out for some sightseeing—the Space Needle and its surrounding attractions were just a few blocks from the hotel.
Eating at the Seattle Holiday Inn
In the morning, we had breakfast at the Emerald Grill, the hotel’s restaurant, where kids eat free. We had to wait a while before being seated, despite the fact that there seemed to be several servers in the restaurant and a couple open tables. Once we’d ordered, our food came very quickly. I had the buttermilk pancakes—three plate-sized pancakes—and was happy to share half of one with Sunshine.
Later that day, we knew the girls were tired when they started saying, “Let’s go back to the hotel!” We headed back to the restaurant for supper, where they devoured their meals. The servers were great about getting high chairs and booster seats for them and our food came very quickly.
We spent a few hours just relaxing in our room, watching Smokey and the Bandit (there was no kids’ programming on at that hour, to the girls’ dismay).
Exploring Seattle
The Holiday Inn is also located just a couple blocks away from a bus stop that was within the downtown free bus zone, so we could ride the bus for free to any downtown attractions (though Seattle is discontinuing the free bus zone in the fall). On Saturday, we rode the number 5 bus to the Seattle Woodland Zoo (about a fifteen minute ride).
Overall, the Holiday Inn was conveniently located for exploring Seattle and provided a relaxing, enjoyable weekend. There were so many things to see and do in Seattle that we couldn’t fit them all into a weekend, so we’ll probably be back!
I received a discounted rate at the Holiday Inn for the weekend; all opinions expressed are my own.

Christina – I’ve been white water rafting as a kid too and it was tons of fun. 🙂 Photoshop is fun…
Butterscotch – the Holiday Inn actually has family suites available too, though we didn’t get that. Look into it – family friendly is definitely a plus for us!
Jo – I want to go back again! There’s still lots there that we haven’t seen. 🙂
lovely post looks like a good place to stay
That looks like a great hotel! I’ll have to keep that in mind if we ever take the kids to Seattle, since 11th Ave Inn doesn’t allow kids. I want to go back to Seattle!
When I think of Holiday Inn I think of quality! Looks like that is what you got! Nice that it was well situated in the city.
Love that you added your name to the roof of the hotel, unless it’s really there…
Thanks again for the award, you’re so kind. Can’t wait to post about it. I hope that you’re famous one day too. We need more famous Canadians!

Wow looks great! I’ve been to Seattle once with my dad before as we’re HUGE Seahawk fans!! (despite living in Ontario haha). We’ll have to keep this place in mind if we go again 🙂 Great post!
Wow! Great post! I’ve always wanted to visit Seattle! I’ll definitely look into staying there!
I would love to take my family there one day. I hope I can do it before they grown up and left home! (We live in S.A., so we’re not very close.)
I got to visit Seattle as a kid with my folks. We had a family reunion in Washington State. One thing I won’t forget was white water rafting. That was crazy scary, freezing cold and fun. We also went up the Space Needle.
I’m glad your Holiday Inn was family friendly. I wonder if they know that their roof has your blog name “painted” across it! Hahaha! 😀
