Kristen Miele offers sex ed for Christian families

Talking about sexuality, body parts, puberty and more with children is often hard. Often, we’re startled by our kids’ questions about something (like a bathroom sign about where to put pads and tampons), trying to heal from our own wounds and shame around this topic, or just don’t know how to answer those questions in an age-appropriate manner. Yet these are conversations we need to have with our children, especially in this age of information where they may learn false or misleading information about their bodies from other sources.

Kristen Miele is the creator of Sex Ed Reclaimed, a course that seeks to help parents confidently talk to their children about sex. She explains, “In a world where conversations about sex and sexuality are often shrouded in silence and shame, the need for trustworthy sex education is more critical than ever.” In straightforward, practical videos, Kristen offers just that. She seeks to eliminate the confusion and fear that can arise when these questions come up, and instead equip parents and children with good information to understand their bodies and choices.

TKM: What inspired you to create Sex Ed Reclaimed?

Kristen Miele: I’ve been a sex ed teacher for 15 years, and I felt called to begin the course in 2021 through prayer. I had just come off the overseas mission field and was grieving all of the sexual brokenness on the field within the missionary community and the locals. As I was grieving, the Lord gave me a vision for Sex Ed Reclaimed, even with a name. I thought I would film a few of my lessons and put them online for anyone to see, especially those who school at home or have good reason to distrust school sex ed.

By 2025, I have filmed 124 lessons for kids ages 3 to 18, and love that the sex ed is authentic, honest, engaging, and biblically based. There is no where like sex ed reclaimed with the depth and breadth of video content for all ages of kids.

TKM: What have been some challenges you’ve faced in doing so? How have you overcome them?

Kristen: The challenges I’ve faced are spiritual and mostly feeling down about the success of Sex Ed Reclaimed. Currently, it is selling in all 50 states and 14 countries, yet I still see others more successful than me in this space and get jealous. A viral video or appealing to the masses when I primarily appeal to faith-based folks sometimes creates jealousy in me. This is my honest challenge.

Also, I have to make money to keep the business going in order to pay my business bills—so I have had times of hardship but ultimately God does provide. I’m only 2.5 years in after beginning the business, so I’m still young in the space. Prayer will always help me.

TKM: What has been the biggest surprise or fun in doing this course?

Kristen: The biggest surprise is how far reaching the curriculum is going. Also, seeing God’s provision. I feel so incredibly natural in this place of Christian sex ed, and I never saw that coming! Praise God. I also just received a book deal in which I’ll write about the how of Christian sex ed.

TKM: What’s one thing you wish all parents knew about discussing this topic with their kids?

Kristen Miele: I wish all parents knew that they can get started with sex ed today by using regular opportunities presented in their world. Opportunities like music, news, movies and programming, dating couples, marriage, family situations, and church sermons to really jump start the conversation (over the course of your kids lives!) about what they’re thinking, your worldview as a family, and more! The talk is dead. So is the “birds and the bees.” This is about conversations over the course of their lives. It is a form of discipleship. One chat at a time.

TKM: How do you balance work and motherhood?

Kristen: I balance work and motherhood with the help of a supportive spouse both practically and emotionally. He is frequently helpful and we meet each other halfway. We’re a true team with lots of communication.

More about Sex Ed Reclaimed

Sex Ed Reclaimed is a video-based curriculum that guides conversations between parents and children. In each video, Kristen explains a particular topic, calmly and clearly and using kid-friendly metaphors, and then invites parents and children to discuss the topic further. Sex Ed Reclaimed is available either for families/homeschools or for churches/schools, and broken into age-appropriate sections for children ages 3 to 18.

I fully believe that God is the original sex educator. It might sound strange, but I know it to be true. He does the teaching, and we listen. Through His Word, God He speaks to us on the intimacy of the Trinity, the ways we can honor Him with our body, and the blessings of sexual fidelity in marriage. He speaks to sexual immorality over and over again. The earlier we understand this and communicate about bodies, sex, sexuality, dating, and healthy relationships, the more our kids will feel comfortable with us discussing them. The more we talk, the more we’ll show our kids we’re safe people when it comes to difficult topics. The more we talk, the more opportunities we’ll have to honor the Lord, glorify His name, and express His good desires for our kids. ~ Kristen

The Sex Ed Reclaimed website is full of good information, including blog posts and links to podcasts as well as other recommended resources to use with your children. You can also view free samples of the curriculum to decide if it’s right for your family.
