A Surfboard

A surfboard is one of the most important things you’ll need if you’re starting to surf. There are many different types and sizes of surfboards available, so it can take time to know which one is right for you. Here’s a quick guide to help you choose the right surfboard for your needs:

Size: The size of your surfboard will depend on your height and weight. If you’re a beginner, it’s best to start with a larger board that’s easy to paddle and catch waves on. As you progress, you can move to a smaller board that’s better suited for performing tricks and maneuvers.

Shape: Surfboards come in a variety of shapes, from longboards to shortboards. Longboards are great for beginners because they’re stable and easy to ride. Shortboards are better for experienced surfers who want to perform tricks and moves.

Material: Most surfboards are made out of fiberglass or polyurethane. Fiberglass boards are durable and lightweight, while polyurethane boards are more flexible and offer better performance in waves.

Sometimes before buying new sporting gear, I’ve rented a couple time to see what style or size I like. That helps me get a better idea about what I want to buy, before investing a lot of money into a piece of gear that I won’t like. If you do surf lessons, your instructor will likely help you choose the right gear from the rentals or discuss what you want to look for in a board when buying one.

Now that you know the basics, it’s time to start shopping for your perfect surfboard!

Dry Robes

If you’re planning on spending any time surfing, you’re going to want to invest in a good quality dry robe. Wetsuits can be uncomfortable and take forever to dry, so dry robes for changing on the beach are key for keeping warm and comfortable between waves. Look for a robe made of quick-drying material with a snug fit that will prevent it from billowing in the wind.

Surf Wax

If you’re just starting out in surfing, you’ll need to purchase a few items before hitting the waves. In addition to a surfboard, you’ll need a wetsuit, fins, and surf wax. Surf wax is applied to the top of the surfboard and provides traction for your feet. It also helps to keep the board from slipping out from under you while you’re riding the waves.

There are a few different types of surf wax available on the market, so it’s important to choose one that is right for the kind of board you have and the conditions you’ll be surfing in. If you’re unsure about which type of wax to purchase, ask a salesperson at your local surf shop for advice. Once you have your wax, be sure to apply it evenly across the top of your board before each surfing session.

A Leash

If you’re starting to surf, one of the things you’ll need is a leash. A leash keeps your surfboard attached to your body so you don’t lose it in the waves. It also prevents your surfboard from hitting other people in the water.

There are different types of leashes for different types of surfing. For example, if you’re going to be surfing in big waves, you’ll need a different leash than if you’re going to be surfing in small waves. You can buy leashes at most sporting goods stores or online.

When choosing a leash, make sure it’s the right size for your surfboard. You don’t want a leash that’s too long or too short. Also, make sure the leash is comfortable to wear. You’ll be wearing it around your waist, so it shouldn’t be too tight or too loose.

Finally, make sure you know how to use your leash before you go out surfing. If you don’t know how to use it properly, it could come off in the water and you could lose your surfboard.

A Rash Guard

A rash guard is a key piece of clothing for any surfer. They help protect against the harmful rays of the sun and also prevent chafing from rubbing against a surfboard. Rash guards come in a variety of styles, so it’s important to find one that fits your needs. For example, some rash guards have long sleeves while others are sleeveless. It’s also important to choose a rash guard that’s comfortable and breathable, so you can focus on enjoying your time in the waves.

Sunscreen

When you’re surfing at the beach, one of the most important things you’ll need is sunscreen. Even if you aren’t surfing in bright sun, the sunlight can reflect off the water and thus give you a worse sunburn than you’d expect. It’s important to protect your skin just as you would for any other beach activity. There are a few things to consider when choosing a sunscreen for surfing.

The first is the SPF level. You’ll want to choose a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30. This will help ensure that your skin is protected from the sun’s harmful rays.

Another thing to consider is whether you want chemical or physical sunscreen. Chemical sunscreens work by absorbing the sun’s rays, while physical sunscreens work by reflecting them away from your skin. Physical sunscreens are generally considered to be more effective, but they can also be more irritating to your skin.

Finally, make sure you choose a waterproof sunscreen if you’ll be spending any time in the water. Waterproof sunscreens are designed to stay on your skin even when it gets wet, so you don’t have to worry about reapplying it constantly.

With these considerations in mind, you should be able to find the perfect sunscreen for your needs. Once you have it, apply it liberally before heading out into the sun, and enjoy your surfing without worry!
