Chief Exploration Officer Jami Savage

Today I’m delighted to introduce you to another West Coast blogger, Jami Savage. I love Jami’s “CEO” title and sense of adventure. Without further ado, let’s go behind the blog with Jami!

Behind the Blog with Jami Savage of Adventure Awaits!

KBW: When and why did you start blogging?

Jami: I’m what they consider a newbie… only in month four of blogging. But I’m hooked.

I started blogging because I wanted to connect with other parents who were adventurous and wanted to raise their children in the outdoors. I also was getting a lot of questions about “how I do it” and “why” and “is it worth the effort.” I thought I’d start sharing my stories.

I honestly thought it would be a way to journal and share my experiences with my children. A way to celebrate how special every day can be and a medium to force me to get outside and explore more. It’s become so much more than that. It’s opened up more doors then I ever imagined and I’ve only just begun!

KBW: How did you come up with your blog name?

Jami: I spent a TON of time trying to think of it and when I came up with Adventure Awaits I fell in love with it. It has its challenges though, it’s not self-explanatory as to what the blog is all about so I may change it, or improve my tagline. I’ve thought about “Adventures with Kids” or other variations but I keep coming back to Adventure Awaits because it encompasses family and solo adventures. Seek, Explore, Share, Inspire!

KBW: Do you have a blog schedule or do you post when you feel like it?

Jami Savage, the woman behind the blog Adventure AwaitsJami: I do have a schedule! A VERY ambitious one that I have yet to execute exactly as planned. It takes WAY more time than I ever would have thought to put together a well written, high SEO, quality content, perfect photo with overlaying quote with Pinterest worthy feature photo, type of blog post. I know that all of these things need to be done in order to compete in today’s blogging world, but boy or boy, it takes a ton of TIME!

KBW: What is your favourite part of blogging?  Your least favourite part?

Jami: Favorite – I feel like I’ve been “training” for this my whole life. It really is the perfect fit for me. I live an adventurous life and so the blog is an extension of who I am. Combined with my passion for marketing, social media, networking and public speaking, I think overall it’s the most natural fit I could ever ask for!

Least Favorite – I have so many ideas and things I want to do but only so much time and resources! I wish I could run my blog full time and have it generate revenue to sustain itself. Someday!

KBW: What advice would you offer to other bloggers?

Jami: For someone starting out I’d say RESEARCH! Research the niche that you’re looking to go into and see how much competition is in it. Figure out who’s doing well in your industry and where you can learn from what they are doing. Determine what you want your position to be. Use tools like namechk.com to find a name that is available in all domains… having multiple titles across different platforms is challenging.

Take workshops, courses, online courses and learn! Cut down your learning curve as much as you can so you can be successful as quickly as possible. Get a mentor if you can who will help you through the process.

KBW: What is your favourite social media channel and why?

That’s a toss-up between Facebook and Instagram, oh, and LinkedIn… wait, Pinterest? I guess the real answer is hard because that’s a bit of a loaded question. Each of those platforms have a different purpose, so depending on what I’m trying to do will determine which one I want to use.
