October is Brain Tumour Awareness Month

I grew up in an acreage north of a small town.  We lived just around the block from a doctor and his wife who had no kids but welcomed the entire neighbourhood into their home.  Every year, they planned and hosted a block party and shared the produce of their huge garden and orchard.

They often hired me to babysit their cats or water their flowers while they went on holidays. The doctor was the one who diagnosed my dad’s pneumonia and took him to the hospital.  He was my brother’s confirmation sponsor.

And then, when I was in my teens, the doctor needed a doctor.  He was diagnosed with brain cancer and underwent surgery and treatment before passing away.  So in his memory, I’m honoured to be hosting my fellow blogger Shannon and her message about brain tumour awareness month.
